Shango
(James Drew)

Cyber Mews, all!

Shango’s the name, and I was born last November '98 at the Twillingate Cattery in Adelaide, South Australia, which is run by my Mewman’s mother, Kathy.   My cat mother is Bizzi Lizzi, and my cat father is Ginge, who has produced dozens of kittens, but none like me!  I am a sorrel Somali (long-haired Abyssinian).  Kathy thought I’d make a superb pet for her son James, and she was right!

I settled in quickly, and enjoy running James’s place.  OK, he pays the rent, provides the food, does the cleaning (well, pays the cleaners anyway) but SHANGO is in charge!

I’m mainly an indoor cat, but James lets me out regularly, provided I wear a harness and lead.  That doesn’t worry me, ‘cause I’m still the boss, and decide where we walk, where we pause, and how long we take.  Mewman and I attract a lot of attention along the way, which I don’t exactly dislike...  We live near a linear river park, and there are many interesting things to see and smell.

At home, I entertain James, and get a good workout myself, by playing fetch with my black rat-toy.  Wherever it’s thrown, I pounce on it and bring it back for another round.  I especially enjoy it when James tosses it towards the top of the curtains, enabling me to leap up and catch it with my paws on the full.  Television intrigues me too.  James sets the TV’s timer for me during the day, so I can catch the soaps.  Apart from that, I conduct regular inspections of the wardrobes and cupboards, and relax in  my favorite spots -  James’s in-tray (by his computer), the sofa, and near any window.

When my Mewman turns off the lights, I know it’s time to settle down for the night.  After a final prowl to finish off my food, and perhaps hunt down a cockroach or two, I flake out at the foot of the bed.  At first light, I let James know that it’s time he started to think about matters besides sleep – like lavishing attention on me and getting some breakfast started.

I keep getting told that I’m an exceptional cat, and I don’t feel inclined to argue with that view.  Oh – my name.  James got it from the Internet (where else?) at a cat site of which I approve.

You can e-mail me through my Mewman to say Good Day to an Australian gentleman of the feline purrsuasion!  (Our thanks to Cats Scans for giving my Mewman the means to get me my well-earned place in the Feline Hall of Fame!)  Meeeeeeow!

Shango has just completed his first show as an adult cat with these results:
